Board Opportunity

The mission of GLO is to support the wellbeing of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and allied individuals in the Greater Springfield Area by organizing and sponsoring community events and increasing the public and personal understanding of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and intersex issues.

Board members are expected to attend monthly board meetings. participate in committees and GLO events. This is a working board, and as such board members are involved in programming, administrative duties, and fundraising. Other duties include: annual membership dues; informing others about the organization and its mission; and assisting the board in carrying out fiduciary responsibilities. The Board is accountable to the membership for managing the affairs of GLO, the State of Missouri for adhering to state corporate law, and the Federal Government in matters relating to legislation affecting non-profit organizations.

Requirements:

The GLO Center is looking for board volunteers with experience in one or more of the following areas:
• Social Media Marketing
• Non-profit management
• Financial Planning & Budgeting
• Human Resources
• Sales & Fundraising
• Community & Social Services
• Health Services
• Social Justice
• Law
• Education
• Volunteer Organization

Board members should also:

Possess honesty; sensitivity to and tolerance of differing views; a friendly, responsive, and patient approach; community-building skills; personal integrity; a developed sense of values; concerns for GLO’s development; a sense of humor; and most importantly – a passion for the LGBTQ+ community of the Ozarks.

Abiliy to listen, analyze, think clearly and creatively, work well with people individually and in a group.

Willing to prepare for and attend board & committee meetings, ask questions, take responsibility and follow through on assignments, contribute personal and financial resources in a generous way according to circumstances, open doors in the community, and evaluate oneself.

Develop certain skills, if you do not already possess them, such as to cultivate and solicit funds, cultivate and recruit board members and other volunteers, read and understand financial statements, learn more about the substantive program area of the organization.

Meeting times:

Monthly board meetings are held at The GLO Center (518 E. Commercial Street, Springfield, MO) on the second Monday of each month from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

The GLO Center’s Annual Meeting is held the first Sunday in March.

Committee meetings and other event schedules vary.
